SONY/MINOLTA LENSES

Sony 18-70mm kit lens: £45 (no VAT)
Once used only. Actually, looks like a great lens. Purchased less than a month ago.

Minolta AF 28-135mm f4-4.5: £160
Totally deserves it's elevated reputation! Lovely clean sample, and sharp. Excellent condition and optically perfect.

Minolta AF 50mm f2.8 Macro: £130 + VAT if UK/EU ($260 US)
Insanely sharp, beautifully built Macro: perhaps Minolta's finest. Excellent condition, optically perfect.

Sigma 21-35mm f3.5-4.2: £45 (no VAT)
Flawless optically and very clean cosmetically.

ZEISS LENSES

Contax 25mm f2.8 MM Distagon: £185 / €235 / $365 (no VAT)
Perfect sample of this Zeiss prime in late MM specification. Comes complete with original caps.

Contax 28mm f2.8 Distagon: £145 / €185 + VAT ($365 for US customers)
Superb condition late MM version of this most wonderful of 28mm primes. Matched Canon EF adaptor also available for £35 extra. To even come close to this lens you need to spend 4x as much on the Leica ROM, which is what I did.

Rollei Zeiss HFT 18mm f4 Distagon: £145 (no VAT)
Some brassing on the aperture ring and some barely discernible thinning of paint on the body, but optically unblemished front and rear. A fleck of internal black coating has detached from the barrel lining and floats about under the front element. For an extra £30 I will have the lens professional cleaned and serviced and sell it with a certification of health.

Rollei Zeiss HFT 35mm f2.8 Distagon: £65 (no VAT)
Late model T*-like HFT coated Zeiss Distagon with performance very similar to the Contax version. Canon EF adaptors available.

Rollei Zeiss single coated 35mm f2.8 Distagon: £45
Proper Zeiss Distagon but with single coating from early Rollei production. Excellent condition.

Canon EF-converted Rollei Zeiss 85mm f1.4 Planar: £75 [SOLD]
Rather than adapting this Rollei Zeiss, I've installed a permanent EF mount for guaranteed infinity focus. This copy is a bit of a Frankenstein project, hence the price – there are some very faint cleaning marks on the front element and some dust inside, as well as moderate brassing on the aperture ring, which now operates steplessly. Oh, and if you over-rotate it past the minimum focus, it falls apart. However, despite all that, it is a proper fast Zeiss lens with HFT coating and as such is fully capable of all the Zeiss magic. PM or email me for pix shot with it (full frame). For an extra £30 I would have it professionally dismantled and the internal dust cleaned out. Or give it some DIY TLC and snag a bargain.

Zeiss Jena Pentacon 6 300mm f4 with Canon EF adaptor: £95
Something of a collector's item, this is serial no. 1001: the first off the line when Zeiss Jena revamped (and improved) production of the final run – all identified by four-digit serials. There is some typical CA at wide apertures but it's a very sharp lens, and the aperture is completely circular throughout, ensuring smooth bokeh. FYI this sample has a curious quirk: the front section of the barrel wobbles fractionally – but there's no impact on IQ. I've discounted the lens accordingly. The lens is in P6 mount which can easily be adapted to Mamiya 645 for use with digital MF backs, or the supplied Canon EF mount can be replaced inexpensively with a shifting or tilting version.

OTHER LENSES

Canon 50mm f2.5 Macro: £95 / €120 + VAT ($245)
Great and much undervalued lens: Canon's very best at this focal length and small apertures. Complete with all original packing and box. Mint condition.

Pentax 50mm f1.4 SMC (late M42): £75
The most desirable version of this lens: slightly sharper in the corners, and more attractive bokeh. Super condition sample with smooth focus and no optical or cosmetic flaws.

Pentax 50mm f1.4 Super Takumar M42: £50
Very, very mild yellowing present, but actually images from this lens are no warmer than the later SMC version. Beautifully smooth focus.

Rodenstock Apo 90mm f4: £150 (no VAT)
The sharpest lens you'll ever use, or your money back. Pick up this and a Zörk MFS (or similar) and you have the ultimate macro rig. The MTF chart on this thing is flat to the ceiling all the way out to 15mm shift at all but maximum aperture. A great, great lens. This sample is immaculate but missing its case, which doubles as a rear cap. I will pack it extra securely to protect the rear element.

Mamiya 645 24mm f3.5 Fisheye: £375
Superb condition cosmetically; optically perfect. Original front and rear caps.

Mamiya 645 45mm f2.8: £95
Latest N version: some paint thinning on mount but perfect glass and superb cosmetically. Original front and rear caps.

Converted Minolta Rokkor X 58mm f1.2: £275 (no VAT) [SOLD]
Very late rubber grip model (serial number 277XXX) with the advantage of the latest coatings. Converted to Canon EF mount, giving bang on infinity focus. Some camera bodies may not permit the lens to focus to infinity without fouling the mirror. With any liveview equipped camera, this won't be a problem, of course . . . . Deservedly legendary for its matchless bokeh, this is plenty sharp, but it's the character you'll buy it for: it has an elusively beautiful drawing style that you will fall in love with as soon as you shoot with it.

AN UNUSUAL ACCESSORY:

95mm B+W Kaseman Circular Polariser: £45

  Nikon 35mm f2.8 PC-Nikkor Shift lens: £195 (plus VAT)
[SOLD]
Mint condition, complete with caps. Supplied with VAT receipt. Actual sample used in the recent 35mm Shift Lens Group Test.
SOLD
Contax 21mm f2.8 Distagon: £1,600 (Zero VAT)

Perfect condition Zeiss 21mm Distagon with leather bag and caps. Deservedly legendary. Pix pending . . .

Zörk Panoramic Shift Adaptor (PSA) Complete System for Canon Digital: £895
A whole system for the price of a new Canon 45mm TS!

• Zörk PSA (Tripod Mount version) in Pentax 645/Canon EF mount
• Fitted L-Bracket
• Pentax 645 FA 35mm f3.5
• Pentax 645 SMC-A 55mm f2.8
• Pentax 645 SMC-A 150mm f3.5

This is simply the best way to obtain maximum shift movements on a Canon digital body. The Zörk Panoramic Shift Adaptor permits movements of up to 22mm, and is the only system designed for DSLRs to accommodate parallax-free stitching. The lenses I'm selling with it have been chery-picked for ultimate performance: the Pentax FA35 is just the greatest medium format retrofocus wide angle ever. The SMC-A 55mm f2.8 is a cracking manual focus Pentax 645 lens that outperforms the Hasselblad 50mm CF. And the butter smooth manual focus 150mm f3.5 is even better at distance than the Hasselblad, Mamiya and Pentax Macro 120mm lenses. In my opinion (and that of Zörk in Germany), the Pentax 645 range is the best array of MF lenses ever, with a beautiful, Zeiss-like drawing style and bottomless resolution. Until a digital Pentax 645 option arrives, this remains the best way to unlock that potential in the digital realm. Pix pending.

SOLD
Contax/Yashica mount Zeiss Distagon AE 35mm f2.8: £85
This is the actual sample (serial 5955613) used in all tests up to November 2007. So you may already know how good it is! It's pretty much been the best thing I can find at the focal length, convincingly besting the Leica equivalent. The only thing I've found to better it fractionally is the 35-70mm zoom at smaller apertures, but the prime has far less barrel distortion. Focus and apertures are smooth: there is a graze on the outer casing at the front, so it's not mint, but it is a guaranteed great performer. Matched Contax/EOS adaptor also available.
  Vivitar 2x Teleconverter for Mamiya 645: £35
I was amazed to discover how good this 2x converter is. Then again, it seems to be identical to the one Vivitar formulated for Hasselblad so perhaps I shouldn't have been shocked to discover how little it degrades the performance of a good manual focus prime. Mint condition but missing rear Mamiya cap.
SOLD
Contax PC-Distagon Zeiss 35mm f2.8 shift lens: £795
The best 35mm shift lens. Amazing performance shifted and when used as a straight prime lens. Superb condition. Actual sample used in the recent
35mm Shift Lens Group Test.
SOLD
Zeiss 120mm f2.8 Tilt lens for Canon EF: £195
If you've ever looked enviously at the Canon 90mm T/S but wondered whether it was worth the money, this is the lens for you. Not only is in better optically in just about every way, it's less than half the price. This Pentacon Six 120mm Zeiss Jena Biometar f2.8 is mounted in a P6-Canon tilting adaptor that provides 8° movements. The lens is superbly sharp and aberration free wide open, and has produced some of the most detailed full frame captures I've seen, with and without movements. When you're generating 19MB CR2s on a 5D you know something is right. Great, great bargain. Pix pending.
SOLD

Zörk MultiFocus System (MFS) + Rodenstock Apo Rodagon N 105mm f4: £450
This is the best way to use the very best resolving lens money can buy. The latest multicoated Rodenstock Apo Rodagon 105mm f4 N (not to be confused with the inferior S version) is the most outstanding lens in a range of truly stellar optics: even when used on a 645 body like the Mamiya 645, with full tilt movements, corners are still razor sharp at every aperture, thanks to its 100mm+ image circle. There is no better copy lens for close range work: perfectly flat field, massively high resolution and dead neutral for colour, distortion and aberration.

When considering these MTF charts, bear in mind that a full frame sensor will only be using the centre 23mm of its image circle, in which the lens is flatline perfect at f4. The Zörk MultiFocus on which this lens is mounted gives you a full 20° of tilt and is calibrated to give correct focus from infinity down to about 30cm. Because this lens is optimised for close range performance, it works superbly as a focal-plane-controlled macro with extension tubes. But even at distance, it will almost certainly outperform whatever else you've used at this focal length. The MFS has a Contax/Yashica mount, which works fine with an AF-chipped Canon adaptor (not included in the sale). It comes with a Rodenstock cap and a rare flexi rubber hood. In fact, these lenses don't come up for sale very often, and have made as much as $650 on eBay: they are about $950 new. The Zörk MFS adaptor is $617 new and even more rarely seen for sale used.

SOLD
Pentacon Six Zeiss Jena Flektogon 50mm f4: £95
Superb condition late model Flektogon from final production, complete with caps.
Pentacon Six Zeiss Jena 300mm f4: £95 (Serial number 1001)
Quite a rarity, this: the very first lens produced under the new, improved quality control regime at Jena. Odds are that this sample would be a good one! Cosmetically, this is in superb condition, but there is a tiny wobble in the front half of the barrel. I can't determine any impact on images captured, but I'm happy to send samples to prospective buyers. Very sharp lens.
SOLD
Zeiss 85mm f1.4: £370 NOW WITH SPECIALLY MATCHED CANON ADAPTOR
Many consider the Zeiss 85/1.4 to be the best fast short tele available: certainly for colour, resolution and bokeh it is hard to beat: in particular the colour rendition is more vibrant than the Canon 85L, without being 'warmed up'. This is the HFT Rollei version, which comes with a matching Canon EF adaptor: infinity focus is guaranteed. The condition is excellent, with minor blemishes in the paintwork and a faint cleaning mark on the front element. None of these affect its great performance in the slightest: please let me send you some stellar full frame captures to prove it!
When it comes to volume photography, Brightlights really shines. If you want putting in the picture about what Brightlights can do for you, call Michael Keating on 01625 669456. Zeiss 18mm f4 Distagon: £195
This Carl Zeiss Rollei-branded Distagon is exactly the same, optically, as the ones made for Contax: the only difference is that the Contax models were finished with the T* coating, and the Rollei units were given the HFT coating, which is generally considered to be indistinguishable. This sample is not pristine: it has two loose paint flecks just under the front element which usually fall out of view when the lens is in a shooting position. There is a little brassing on the aperture ring also. All the Zeiss 18mm are touch and go when used on a 5D; most are fine on a 1Ds I or II and EF-S mount bodies. If you'd like to see samples shot on a Canon 400D, just ask . . .
  Carl Zeiss 35mm f2.8 Rollei-Mount Distagon (HFT version): £95
These Rollei-mount Distagons are identical to the Contax versions in every way bar the coating. As such they are one of the best value 35mm primes available, and are ravishingly sharp in the f5.6-f11 range: on par with the Elmarits, at a fraction of the cost. Rollei-Canon adaptors specially modified to give infinity focus are also available for £40.
  Carl Zeiss 35mm f2.8 Rollei-Mount Distagon: £75
As above but single coated.
  Nikon 20mm f4 : £95
Small modification made to the protruding fin on the rear mount which previously made it incompatible with Canon bodies. Well used condition, but perfectly serviceable. There is a scuff in the coating on the rear element. See pictures for how this affects image quality on a full frame Canon.
  Carl Zeiss 35mm f2.8 Rollei-Mount Distagon: £75
As above but single coated.
SOLD
Olympus OM 28mm f3.5 G Zuiko (Silver Nose): £20
Much under-rated little gem: several tests have confirmed that the Olympus 28mm f3.5 has sharper corners than the Zeiss 28mm Distagon. This copy is in excellent condition cosmetically but has a circular cleaning mark on the coating of the front element, hence the discounted price! Email for pix . . . .
SOLD
Vivitar 6000 AF-C Ring Flash for Canon EOS: £25
Used three times only. As new, complete with box. 52mm thread (ideal for Canon 50mm Macro) adaptable to larger sizes with step rings.
  Rollei SL35 and Zeiss 50mm f1.8 Planar: £20
Classic Rolleiflex film camera body and Zeiss 50mm prime. The lens is stiff to focus and has a ding in the filter ring, but the Planar 50/1.8 is actually sharper than the Canon 50mm f1.2 L in the f5.6-f11 range . . .
SOLD
Hasselblad -> Pentax 645 adaptor : £30
FotoDiox version. Use any classic Hasselblad 500 series, C or CF lens on your Pentax 645 or Pentax-mount Zörk PSA.

Pentax 645 SMC-A 150mm f3.5 : £95
This is my personal candidate for the title of Word's Most Undervalued Lens. It's simply phenomenal: razor sharp, beautiful colour, silky bokeh. At midlle and long distances, this sample outperforms the 120mm Macro, and the highly regarded 180mm f2.8 Sonnar in Pentacon Six mount. When used on the Zörk PSA it stitches three shots to give an hFOV similar to an 80mm lens in 35mm terms.
SOLD
Pentax 645 SMC-A 55mm f2.8 : £125
Another great, great Pentax lens: resolves very similarly to the Canon 50 Macro on a 5D, but the colour is more attractive. Gives a nice wide image when stitched with the Zörk Panoramic Shift Adaptor.

Mamiya 645 Manual Focus 45mm f2.8 C: £95
If you put this lens on a £25 Mamiya-Canon shift adaptor, you will have a lens that massively outperforms Canon's 45TS at a fraction of the cost. I don't know if they improved the lens in the N or AF version, but there's very little wrong with it just as it is. Email me for full frame samples if you're interested in the lens either on an AFD body or a Canon digital.
