Level pegging. Interestingly, on a 350D, neither lens make a great leap in performance from f2.8 to f5.6 centre frame. The Pentax SMC-A once again seems to be a little more contrasty centre frame, with more neutral colouring, but the difference is pretty subtle and may have more to do with lighting variation than the lens.

There is definitely a marked fall-off in resolution and contrast as we move even 10mm off axis with the Pentax. For comparison, here's how the Canon 24mm f2.8 (on a 350D) rendered the same section of the frame at f5.6, both with some Shadow & Highlight correction:
